The Board is budgeting compensation in a range of $180,000 to $200,000, commensurate with experience, and consisting of base and incentive pay based on organizational milestones.

Maryland’s nonprofit sector is navigating a period of significant challenge and transformation, including federal funding shifts, evolving public policy landscapes, and increasing demand for services. The next President & CEO will guide the organization through this complexity while advancing a bold strategic vision aligned with its 2023–2027 priorities.
This leader will partner with the Board and staff to expand the organization’s advocacy influence, strengthen membership engagement, and ensure programs meet the evolving needs of a diverse nonprofit sector. They will also steward a sustainable financial model and cultivate partnerships across sectors to amplify impact statewide.
The President & CEO will oversee a talented leadership team and foster a collaborative, equity-centered culture. This role requires strong strategic thinking, relationship-building, and the ability to translate vision into action.
Specific areas of responsibility include:
Strategic Leadership and Governance
Partner with the Board to refine and implement a forward-looking strategic vision.
Translate priorities into actionable plans with measurable outcomes.
Ensure strong governance, alignment, and organizational accountability.
Outreach and Advocacy
Serve as the primary spokesperson and advocate for Maryland’s nonprofit sector.
Build relationships with policymakers, funders, and cross-sector leaders.
Advance a proactive public policy agenda and elevate organizational visibility.
Membership, Programs, and Sector Impact
Guide innovation across programs, including training, consulting, and Standards for Excellence.
Strengthen member engagement, recruitment, and retention strategies.
Use data and evaluation to continuously improve impact and relevance.
Revenue Strategy and Operational Sustainability
Lead a diversified revenue strategy across membership, earned income, and philanthropy.
Oversee financial planning, budgeting, and long-term sustainability.
Ensure strong systems, internal controls, and operational effectiveness.
Organizational Leadership and Management
Lead and develop a high-performing leadership team and staff.
Foster an inclusive, collaborative culture grounded in equity and accountability.
Strengthen internal systems, infrastructure, and cross-functional collaboration.
Experience, Skills and Qualities

10+ years of senior leadership experience in nonprofit or related sectors.
Deep understanding of nonprofit trends, policy, and sector dynamics.
Strong financial acumen and experience with revenue diversification.
Proven success in fundraising and business model development.
Strategic thinker able to translate vision into execution.
Skilled communicator and effective public spokesperson.
Experience in advocacy, public policy, or coalition-building.
Track record leading organizational change and managing complexity.
