We are seeking a Director of Marketing, Communications, and Events to lead comprehensive marketing strategy, guide communications, and event execution. This position requires expertise in developing targeted campaigns, managing strategic partnerships, and leading cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate brings both creative vision and systematic execution; designing compelling campaigns, building sustainable partnerships, and leading a team to achieve organizational goals. Key Responsibilities
Marketing Strategy & Promotions – 30%
- Lead and advance the League’s Business Membership and Strategic Partnership programs to drive engagement and support for Wisconsin municipalities.
- Develop, implement, and track measurable marketing outcomes tied to organization?wide engagement and attendance growth strategies.
- Create and promote visibility opportunities through The Municipality Magazine, digital, and event based channels such as exhibitor expos.
- Design targeted marketing campaigns for key municipal audiences.
- Develop and maintain benchmarks for member engagement, using the membership database (iMIS) to guide tracking, analysis, and strategic outreach.
- Deliver presentations and outreach efforts promoting League business and affiliate memberships, highlighting member value, benefits, and opportunities for involvement.
Communications Leadership – 30%
- Provide strategic oversight of the League’s communications framework, ensuring cohesive, timely, and aligned messaging across platforms.
- Guide content planning for e-newsletters, web updates, digital outreach, The Municipality magazine and special communications initiatives.
- Maintain brand standards and ensure consistent application across marketing, membership, and event materials.
- Support development of member-facing resources that add mutual value to business and municipal members, such the Products & Services Guide and job board.
Partnership & Sponsorship Development – 25%
- Cultivate strong, mission aligned relationships with sponsors, vendors, and strategic partners.
- Evaluate and modernize existing sponsorship packages to ensure high ROI for partners and sustainable growth for the League.
- Manage sponsorship recruitment, benefit fulfillment, and communications for conferences, workshops, and special programs among business members and subject matter experts.
- Lead promotional outreach to specialized audiences such as municipal executives, legal counsel, assessors and building inspectors.
- Collaborate with peer organizations and resources to identify, share, and implement initiatives that connect and serve members.
Supervisory responsibilities – 15% include supervising and collaborating with a team including the Senior Events Manager on event strategy and oversight of in-person and virtual events, the Communications Specialist on content and messaging strategy development, and the Administrative Assistant. This position reports to the Chief Operating and routinely collaborates with the Director of Education and Training and other members of the League Staff.

Qualifications

Required:
- Associate or bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, Public Administration, or related field.
- Experience in marketing, partnership development, event coordination, or municipal/association outreach.
- Strong proficiency with digital tools, databases, and communication platforms.
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Ability to attend League events, such as Spring/Fall Conferences, outside regular working hours, including overnight travel.
Desired:
- Master's degree and/or certifications such as CMP, CAE, or CCE.
- Experience in a membership based organization or with local government.
- Familiarity with project management tools, member databases (iMIS), AI, and digital marketing platforms.
- Track record of success in relationship building and sponsorship development.
