The American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists is seeking a candidate to join our association in the newly created position of Community Engagement Specialist. This position plays a key role in building strong relationships with members and volunteers and enhancing their experiences through the Academy’s community platform, Academy Exchange. This position supports the Chief Communications and Strategy Officer in a variety of communication initiatives including podcasts and publications.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Community Engagement Platform Management
Manage the member community, Academy Exchange, including monitoring posts and content, uploading new content, and fostering an engaging and inclusive community of O&P professionals.
Work collaboratively with the Membership Manager to identify strategies to increase member retention and member engagement through the community platform.
Review and update the Academy Exchange policy as appropriate. Ensure user adherence to policy to maintain a respectful and welcoming environment.
Podcast Management Training & Oversight:
Develop an understanding of the organization’s philosophical approach to its podcasts, including their purpose, target audience, and strategic goals.
Participate in training to gain proficiency in podcast planning, production workflows, guest coordination, and content promotion. Over time, take on increasing responsibility for managing podcast operations, ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission and engagement objectives.
Collaborate with internal teams and stakeholders to enhance podcast reach and impact within the community.
Additional responsibilities as needed to support community engagement initiatives
Ensure all communications align with the Academy’s brand identity and messaging
Provide onsite assistance at the Academy Annual Meeting
Other duties as assigned
SPECIAL SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
Experience with community platforms (Breezio preferred)
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
Detail oriented and deadline driven
Excellent writing and editing skills
Emotional resilience and confidence
Must be a self-starter as well as an independent and creative thinker with a focus on details and the ability to initiate and complete projects independently
Must be able to travel to the Academy’s Annual Meeting and Scientific Symposium
