The District Council Department facilitates the exchange of information that strengthens the capacity of the Institute to deliver its mission at the local level, via its District Councils.
POSITION SUMMARY:
In support of ULI priorities and objectives, the candidate will lead all communications and marketing from the District Council department in support of ULI and department programs/initiatives which enable the work of ULI District Councils. The candidate will oversee department projects which foster the exchange of useful information and alignment of ULI activities across the network, including initiatives such as the Young Leaders and NEXT Affinity groups.
The candidate will plan the strategy and oversee the design and execution all communications for the department including newsletters, leadership/DC staff event communications, social media channels, website content. The candidate will assist in the development of content for department convenings such as volunteer and staff webinars and in person staff and member leader retreats which support the professional and leadership development needs of member leaders and staff.
The successful candidate is an organized project manager and can support multiple department projects which seek to engage District Council staff and members with ULI Americas programs/initiatives. Therefore, the candidate will possess excellent collaboration skills, is customer- service oriented and can support in a highly dynamic environment.
The position is on a hybrid schedule with 2 days in ULI’s Washington DC office, and requires that the candidate attends district council events and functions in person in the US and Canada. Meetings, events, and programs may be in the early mornings or evenings.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plan the strategy for all communications vehicles, write and edit content and oversee the design and production of department collateral materials including newsletters, flyers, brochures, reports, PowerPoint presentations, SharePoint site, and ads. Develop editorial strategy and calendar and oversee the execution of regular the monthly electronic staff/leader newsletter, weekly operations email to field staff, social media channel updates and manage the department’s website. Assist Director with YLG and NEXT affinity group communications channels as needed. (40%)
Manage cross-department team projects which support membership initiatives, mission advancement programs as assigned. Maintain working relationships with ULI department staff, district council staff and members, in order to be informed and facilitate effective communications, outreach and project execution. (20%)
Support content development and execution of events in support of ULI and District Council objectives including but not limited to coordinating with speakers and content providers, facilitating speaker requirements and logistics. Work with staff or committees on agenda and content development which meet the objectives of the event. Assist with planning and executing the smooth delivery of department member/staff conference, committee meetings, networking receptions and dinners, as needed. (20%)
Skilled at using design software such as Canva to produce and manage day to day department design needs or oversee Creative Services team on design of more complex projects. Coordinate with Corporate Branding staff to ensure all communications materials are consistent with ULI Brand Standards. (10%)

REQUIREMENTS:Education, Experience, and Skills
BA required.
Five to seven years of project level management, experience, preferably working with a member-based organization.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a complex matrix, client-focused and team-oriented culture.
Direct or indirect oversight of staff in executing on projects.
Strong written communication skills in marketing/communication capacity, without the use of AI.
Demonstrated experience in execution of event content development and execution.
Creative and problem-solving skills; ability to deliver programs across a wide range of priorities.
Advanced software skills (Word, Excel, graphics programs, website software, social media platforms, new communications technologies).
Talented in developing graphic materials for presentations and marketing ULI products.
Well organized, able to manage complex projects and work programs to deadlines.
Strong ability to initiate tasks and assume responsibility for them, and to work with minimal supervision in a high-production position.
Proven ability to build strong relations inside organizations and with external partners.
