The American Horticultural Society (AHS) seeks an Accounting Manager, reporting to the Director of Finance. This position will be a critical, hands-on partner to AHS membership, development and program teams. Successful candidates will possess excellent organization, communication, and relationship building skills.

Responsibilities
While there may be other job-related responsibilities and tasks, this job description is intended to identify the essential functions and requirements of the position.
Manage the general ledger, accounts payable, deferred revenue, fixed assets, as well as bank, investment and fund balance reconciliations; all in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
Submit payroll on semi-monthly and bi-weekly cycles for PEO processing; set up new hires as needed; submit retirement plan contributions semi-monthly;
Execute timely monthly closing processes necessary to deliver financial reports for internal leadership, optimizing the use of technology;
Coordinate delivery of documentation and financial information to external CPA firm for annual audit and 990 preparation, including preparation of supporting schedules and responses to fieldwork checklists;
Coordinate charitable registration and compliance with state regulators;
Act as primary contact for financial software and tools, such as Intacct, BILL, Insperity, and TIAA;
Support and advise internal team in accounting policies and procedures;
Review revenue and expense coding by department and funding source within BILL and Sage Intacct and perfect reporting by segment, including grant restrictions and spend-downs;
Monitor cash balances and support bank and investment relationships;
Create effective and regular means of reporting financial health to the Director of Finance;
Coordinate annual insurance renewal in conjunction with Director of Finance;
Lead preparation of annual budget in coordination with department heads and Director of Finance;
Attend monthly Finance Committee meetings; and
Represent Finance leadership in the absence of the Director of Finance.
Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Business, Accounting, or Finance.
Minimum of five years’ experience in an accounting role; public accounting and/or non-profit experience preferred.
Ability to communicate at various levels of financial literacy.
Experience with Sage Intacct preferred.
Experience balancing short and long-term project deadlines while remaining flexible.
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, written, and verbal skills. High attention to detail.
