Reporting to the American Fire Sprinkler Association’s (AFSA) President, the Director of Member Services will be responsible for advocating member benefits, and services as well as cultivating membership growth within the organization. Working in concert with the Department’s Strategic Plan, the Director will be responsible for leading the development, implementation, and evaluation of membership recruitment and retention strategies, as well as day-to-day management of the Membership Department staff.
Goals:
The Membership Department will work to grow and retain the membership rolls of AFSA.
The Membership Department will support and develop regional chapters and chapter leadership.
Membership Department staff will promote AFSA as the premier resource for fire sprinkler contractor firms seeking to gain a competitive edge with our training programs.
AFSA’s Membership Department will assist local chapter development through national programming aimed to support the regional needs critical to local fire sprinkler contractors.
AFSA’s Membership Department will serve as a conduit to leadership in the development of products & programs supporting fire sprinkler contractors.
Membership Department staff will emphasize that AFSA is the leading industry voice for shared fire sprinkler contractor knowledge & peer-driven services.
Responsibilities:
Manage membership recruitment efforts including the dissemination of member benefit information and new member recruiting and onboarding.
Coordinate all membership retention processes including dues billing, application processing, database maintenance and development, as well as member communications.
Lead an assessment and enhancement process of current AFSA member recruitment and retention practices.
Work with communications and marketing team to develop all membership communication materials and campaigns.
Lead talent development and skills growth of department staff.
Support the development and growth of AFSA’s chapters and affiliated state organizations and act as the face of AFSA at chapter events throughout the USA, Canada and beyond.
Organize and execute dynamic Chapter Leadership Conferences affording chapter leaders the opportunity to network, learn best practices, and be briefed on new AFSA initiatives.
Oversee the development and maintenance of safety resources for contractors including AFSA’s online safety portal.
Act as liaison to AFSA’s Membership Development Committee, and other standing committees as assigned.
Assist AFSA’s Membership & Chapter Development Committee with developing goals and action plans for retention and membership growth.
Develop an annual Departmental Budget and operate within a budgeted framework throughout the year.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Bachelor’s Degree and minimum of five (5) years of experience in membership or constituent management position are preferred.
Demonstrated ability to develop and execute new membership programs and initiatives.
Excellent writing skills, with an ability to create compelling, persuasive narratives that are strategically membership focused.
Ability to identify trends and gather/analyze insights from networks that translate into membership growth opportunities.
Extensive knowledge of the techniques necessary for expanding and retaining a membership base.
Strong analytical skills, as evidenced by experience with drawing insights from data and making decisions accordingly.
Prior experience working in an association or voluntary participation structure strongly preferred.
Prior experience working with the construction industry is not required, but is helpful.
Prior experience working with components (chapters/affiliates) is not required, but is helpful.
Proven ability to perform as a self-starter, take initiative and work independently.
Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite, Social Media, and Web Applications.
Must be available and willing to travel to such locations and with such frequency as AFSA determines is necessary or desirable to meet its membership needs.
A personable and engaging personality is a must with this position.
