The Chief Executive Officer will provide overall strategic leadership and effective operational execution for the Fraternity. This includes overseeing all programs and operations of the Fraternity and acting as the primary spokesperson for the organization with external constituencies.
Responsibilities
Governance and Legal:
Serves as an ex officio member of the National Council and other governing boards as appointed, and as the board secretary of the National Council
Provides governing board(s) with guidance on issues of policy and strategy
Provides governing board(s) with reporting on key performance indicators (KPIs), strategic plan progress, finances, legal and operational matters, and other topics as requested
Responsible for the operational adherence to all Fraternity governing documents, National Council decisions and directives, and the strategic plan
Responsible for alignment with the organization’s overall diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility priorities (“DEIA”) both at the programmatic and administrative levels, as evidenced through structure, practices, policies, operations, and leadership
Serves as the primary contact to legal counsel to resolve all insurance and legal matters
Strategy and Program Development:
Works with the National Council to develop the Fraternity’s strategy for fulfilling its mission
Responsible for the execution of the Fraternity’s long-term strategic plan, annual operating plan, and quarterly objectives and initiatives; accountable for achievement of the goals and objectives as outlined in the strategic plan
Oversees the development and execution of all Fraternity programs, including strategy and objective development, value proposition, resourcing, execution, quality management, and data-driven assessment
Develops and executes innovative growth strategies to achieve the Fraternity’s strategic growth goals, including through recruitment, membership retention, and campus expansion initiatives
Fraternity Operations:
Oversees all Fraternity operations and is responsible for achievement of all organizational goals, the Strategic Plan, and day-to-day operations
Oversees all Fraternity departments, personnel, and contractors/vendors, including chapter services, education, expansion, finance, communications, alumni engagement, and other teams, staff, and volunteers
Develops and grows volunteer pool (including recruitment, training, and enablement) and oversees Fraternity’s operating volunteers, including Boards of Governors, educational program volunteers, Domain Directors, committees, and other volunteers as required; develops reports with Boards of Governors and engages as needed to facilitate local oversight and goals
Oversees the planning and execution of all national Fraternity events, including National Convention, educational programs, National Council meetings, and other events as required or directed
Serves as the Fraternity’s chief human resources officer, responsible for HR practices and policies, organizational design, talent development, performance management, compensation, and benefits
Leads annual and quarterly planning and operational cadences, including OKR (Objectives and Key Results) development, execution, and reporting
Oversees information system, data management, reporting, and analysis of Fraternity data to quantify outcomes and ensure data-driven decision making
Ensures effective communication among all stakeholders for cross-organizational alignment
Emphasizes and models a culture of compliance within the fraternity relative to risk management and health and wellness programs
Oversees adjudication of chapter risk management and disciplinary incidents, and the development and execution of risk management and health and wellness programs; leads crisis management response
Finance:
Accountable to the National Council on all financial/budgetary matters
Responsible for timely and accurate preparation of the annual budget for the Fraternity in alignment with the organization’s strategy, and delivers quarterly financial reports and other ad hoc financial analysis
Coordinate the preparation and completion of the annual audit and review process
Responsible for all IRS, governmental, and other legal filings
Oversees the Fraternity’s insurance policies
Ensures the Fraternity’s operations support adherence to the budget and other financial policies and safeguards
External Representation:
Serves as a primary public voice of the Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity, both internally to members and externally to stakeholders and the public. Coordinates with the National President to establish consistency of communications
Represents Phi Kappa Tau leadership through appearances and speaking engagements at national educational events, chartering events, alumni events, online/virtual events, and on social media
Represents Phi Kappa Tau in the North American Interfraternity Conference (NIC), Fraternity Executives Association (FEA), and other interfraternal organizations
Develops relationships with and provides strategic communication to college and university administrations to enhance the Fraternity’s goals and operations on campuses
Desired Profile
Minimum of 10-15 years of relevant experience
Bachelor's degree required; an advanced degree, equivalent experience, or Certified Association Executive (CAE) certification is preferred
Relevant certification(s) including but not limited to Certified Association Executive (CAE) and/or Project Management Professional (PMP) is a plus
Membership in Phi Kappa Tau is not required
Deep experience overseeing staff and managing operations – preferred experience leading extended teams of 20+ and overseeing operating budgets of $5M+
Excellent leadership and motivational skills and stakeholder management – ability to gain alignment, build credibility, and inspire action of both staff reports and external stakeholders
Excellent verbal and written communication and public presentation skills
Innovative, high-paced, and agile mindset to program development, execution, and operations
Experience developing and executing strategic plans and achievement of aggressive goals; familiarization of OKR (Objective and Key Results) methodology is a plus
Excellent talent management and supervisory skills, including recruitment/hiring, training and development, performance management, and general HR management
Strong organizational design and development skills; ability to structure and build high-performing teams, identify resource needs, and align resources with strategy and goals
Excellent financial management skills and understanding of finance and accounting
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; comfortable developing and presenting data-driven analysis and recommendations, including understanding of data management, analytics/statistics, and technology
Track record of growing organizations and meeting high-growth objectives
Experience developing and successfully launching new products/programs
Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and delegate when appropriate; excellent project and program management skills
Ability to develop strategic analysis to diagnose problems, identify alternatives, project consequences of proposed actions, and implement recommendations in support of goals
Experience (professional or volunteer) with higher education, fraternity/sorority life, and/or non-profit organizations is preferred
Knowledge of basic computer terminology and operations, the ability to use collaborate communication tools (to include virtual) and navigate through the scheduling/sales booking program
Proficient with Microsoft Office, Salesforce or other CRM software, and other business software
Ability to travel 25-50%, including some weekends
Location:Fraternity headquarters is in Oxford, Ohio. Open to hybrid role with 25% minimum in-office requirement. Relocation expenses negotiable.
