The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) develops performance and other standards for its members in the electrical and medical imaging industries. NEMA crafts and executes advocacy campaigns and provides analytical products to assist member companies with business decisions.
The Market Research Data Analyst – Business Information Services has responsibility for a select group of market data reports including survey design, data collection and verification, and final report preparation and communication with survey participants. The incumbent will work in a team environment supporting participating member companies and/or Sections and coordinating with other NEMA functional areas on special projects. The individual will assume additional tasks such as economic data analysis and chart preparation.
The position reports to the Director – Statistical Operations and is in Arlington (Rosslyn), Virginia. Up to 5 percent time on travel is anticipated.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as the primary data contact for participating member companies
- Work with member companies to collect data to meet reporting deadlines.
- Answer member questions and assist with online data software
- Ensure timeliness and accuracy measures of all reports adhere to Department quality standards
Analyze data and compile periodical market data reports
- Clarify anomalous data from participating companies and other sources
- Make estimation decisions with respect to participants’ data
- Compile summary reports and review final versions for publication
Review/assess value to member companies of statistical program services provided and develop interest in new programs
- Contact nonparticipating member companies and garner their active involvement
- Recruit non-member companies to participate in market data reports
Economic data analysis
- Acquire economic data from public sources such as Census and the International Trade Administration
- Update tables and charts in department economic publications
- Write brief summaries of economic data releases
Experience and Qualifications
- BA/BS in Economics/Statistics/Math or Business with a quantitative background
- 2+ years professional experience, quantitative expertise a strong plus
- Excellent time management skills and ability to execute multiple projects against demanding timelines
- Performs duties effectively either working independently or as part of a team where close self-review of the quality of work produced is the norm
- Comfortable communicating with member company representatives to ensure that data submissions are timely and accurate
- Positively contribute to Department, NEMA and personal professional goals
- Ability to write and speak effectively, especially to non-technical individuals
- Utilize quantitative methods to deliver convincing and business-relevant analytical products to participating companies
- Eager to take on new challenges and consistently evince a positive attitude
- Possess computer literacy and working knowledge of database and spreadsheet programs (Microsoft Access and Excel a plus)
