This is a great time to join the accounting team at The American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR). A multi-national charity, based in Arlington, VA with affiliates in the UK and Holland, funds cutting-edge research in the fields of nutrition, physical activity and cancer prevention, treatment, and survival. 

The Finance Department, with a staff of five is the hub in supporting all three groups from budgeting to preparation for the annual audit. 

Position Summary: 

The Staff Accountant is responsible for the processing of daily, weekly and monthly financial information for one or more affiliates. This includes month-end close, account reconciliations, generation of financial statements, support the A/P function, assist with year-end work, and other tasks as assigned by the Controller.   

Nature of Work: 

• Serves as the primary point of contact for managers
• Prepares weekly cash report and reviews summary reports of pending A/P and cash receipts, review select vouchers and approve payments
• Supports the A/P function through supervision of one Accounting Assistant
• Maintains chart of accounts
• Prepares and inputs journal entries, reconcile balance sheet accounts and generate monthly financial statements
• Assists the Controller with the annual audit, budgeting and allocations
• Assists and/or leads financial systems improvement projects
• Any other tasks as assigned 

 Essential Skills and Knowledge 

• Degree in accounting
• Familiarity with industry standard accounting platforms and proficiency in Excel 
• Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with efficiency
• Strong commitment to professional development and continued learning
• Ability to work independently and in collaboration with colleagues at all levels across all departments 

Desirable Skills and Knowledge  

• Two years of accounting experience  
• Experience with Abila MIP fund accounting software a plus  

Physical Requirements:  

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. 
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
• Travel may be required.
