The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is seeking a motivated individual to join our dynamic Product Strategy and Development Team as an Acquisitions and Development Editor. The Acquisitions and Development Editor plays an integral part in the identification, acquisition, and development of new and revised publishing projects for the Academy. This full-time, work from home role will assist the Director of Practice Publications in the creation and oversight of realistic budget and schedule projections to ensure each project is published on budget and on schedule. The Acquisitions and Development Editor will be a key contributor to the marketing plan for each Academy publication.
The Acquisitions and Development Editor demonstrates thoughtful, strategic and customer focused decision making. Takes initiative using industry metrics to solve problems and create value for the Academy and marketplace alike. Exhibits strong written and verbal communication skills.
Develop acquisitions plan in collaboration with the Director of Practice Publications.
Evaluate and create team revision plans for print and digital publications.
Conduct market and competitor analysis, sales and cost projections and financial viability for each project.
Work closely with authors in the development of manuscripts of assigned titles,and manage the peer review process and development of continuing education and/or ancillary materials.
Manage freelance development editors as needed and work with internal Production team throughout the production and publication process.
Collaborate with Marketing team to develop marketing plans for new and revised publications; create promotional copy as needed.
Assist in the identification of new markets and sales opportunities.
Bachelor’s degree from ACEND accredited program OR publications related degree in English, Journalism, Communications or related field; RDN preferred
Over 3 years of relevant work experience in a nutrition communications or publications-related position
Emphasis on scientific, technical, or medical (STM) writing or publishing is strongly desirable
Must be able to work both independently and as part of a team, pay close attention to detail and manage multiple priorities simultaneously
A high level of professionalism, diplomacy, excellent organization, time management, prioritization, and planning skills, combined with empathy, social skills and a positive attitude with the ability to multitask, are key attributes to the successful person in this position.
