Job Summary

The American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) is the largest professional membership organization for pathologists, residents, and laboratory professionals servicing 100,000 members. As the Director of Membership, this person serves a critical role within ASCP.  In this capacity, the Director is responsible for all activities and personnel involved in membership development, strategy and governance.   The primary responsibilities of this position are developing engagement strategies for every stage of the member journey/career lifecycle and growing membership, including creating programs to recruit new members and retain existing members. Additionally, this individual is responsible for gathering insights via market research, needs assessments and competitive analyses, then leveraging the data to continuously strengthen our value proposition.  Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required to manage the various governance activities and volunteer interactions that support the delivery of an exceptional member experience.

Essential Functions

• Develop an engagement strategy that aligns to the members’ journey/career lifecycles. These initiatives include,
• connecting members at a national and local/regional level by focusing on relevant issues, content, and opportunities.
• growing membership by designing programs to increase member acquisition and retention.
• Direct and align member strategy with key governing activities for Commission on Membership, Fellow Council, Council of Laboratory Professionals, Resident Council, Committee of Regional Representatives
• Serve as a liaison between the Commission on Membership & Member Councils and internal team members. 
• Evaluate data and insights to understand members’ needs and utilize the information to enhance member experience, develop new content, benefits and program offerings.
• Collaborate with volunteers to develop strategies and tactical plans that focus on members’ needs and deliver a personalized member experience.
• Develop and implement high level strategies and programs that increase market share, member engagement and value.

• In collaboration with marketing, develop and execute an integrated annual membership campaign that increases recruitment, reactivation and retention rates.

• In collaboration with the analytics team, set goals and metrics to monitor the success of the annual campaign and report progress.

• Identify key segments and appropriate messaging that resonates with target audiences and clearly demonstrates our value proposition.
