The News Media Alliance, a trade association representing approximately 2000 newspapers in the United States and Canada (newsmediaalliance.org), and the American Press Institute, its supporting research organization (americanpressinstitute.org), are looking for an independent working, service-oriented Director of Human Resources to join our 27 member team.
Reporting to the CFO, this position will perform the HR Management functions to include:
Administration of comprehensive benefits program
POC for 5500 filings
Broker relationships, annual plan design and open enrollments
Retirement plan documents, eligibility, enrollments and distributions
Salary plan administration and biweekly payroll
Recruiting and employee relations, including leading annual performance evaluation process and management of disciplinary processes and/or separations
POC for annual HR and 401k related audits
Compliance with local/state/federal employment law; manage/maintain HR policy manual
Assist with facilities management – serve as a liaison with the property manager; manage the parking; set up and cancel building access through Datawatch; maintain the office equipment (phone system, copier, coffee machine, etc.); work with outsourced IT group to ensure proper functioning of computers as well as appropriate inventory of backups and accessories.
The successful Candidate will have the following qualifications:
BS Degree in Human Resources or related field
7-10 years’ experience in HRD, including 3+ years in leadership position
Excellent communication, leadership, planning and critical thinking skills
Willingness to work independently at a hands-on level along with the support of consultants/vendors
Excellence as a service provider; discrete, professional and personable
